Flexibility and Efficiency Offered by Cloud Computing: Transforming Large-Scale Business Processes and Application Development

Abstract

Purpose - This article aims to analyze how the flexibility and efficiency provided by cloud computing significantly contribute to the optimization of business processes and large-scale application development. It also identifies opportunities, challenges, and adoption trends of cloud technology across different industrial sectors.

Design/methodology/approach - A literature review approach is employed, using descriptive and comparative analysis of several cloud implementations in both multinational enterprises and global start-ups. Secondary data are sourced from peer-reviewed international journals published within the last ten years. The study also discusses cloud adoption frameworks and best practices in the implementation of microservices-based and DevOps-oriented application development.

Findings - The research demonstrates that cloud computing greatly improves flexibility, scalability, and cost-efficiency, empowering businesses to innovate faster and respond to market dynamics more effectively. Nonetheless, cloud utilization also presents new challenges, such as the need for robust data security management, compliance with privacy regulations, and potential dependency on cloud service providers. Cross-departmental collaboration and embracing hybrid/multi-cloud strategies are identified as key success factors.

Research limitations/implications - The primary limitation of this study is its scope, which is restricted to literature review and does not include direct interviews or surveys with IT practitioners in the field. Despite this, the findings are expected to provide a solid foundation for decision-makers in large organizations to shape effective technology policies and drive innovation in business process management.

Originality/value - This study offers a comprehensive and up-to-date synthesis regarding the impact of cloud computing on business process efficiency and flexibility, as well as large-scale application development. It highlights adaptive approaches and implementation challenges across diverse sectors. The original contribution lies in its integrative discussion of modern cloud adoption strategies that foster digital transformation acceleration.
